Book Review: Ngeri karya Gina Yap Lai Yoong

Title: Ngeri
Author: Gina Yap Lai Yoong
Publisher: Buku Fixi
Genre: Thriller
Ratings: 6/10

Summary:

Joanne, Samuel and Rehan are three friends, students in film-making that has the urge to make it big. Their mania turned into scripts and it was mainly horrifying thrillers.
Their scripts was eventually denied by their professors with a reason; it was irrational and illogical. Everything changes as the killings started to match exactly as their scripts. The series killing was horrifying yet so thrilling. It was like two pieces of puzzle, the story fits.
Suspicion developed between the trio after it reaches the university. The situation starts to become hectic. Is the killer between them?

Review:

I could say that this was a thrilling book, gives me the creeps too. The ideas was strong, and this book is very straight-forward. Furthermore, the author has depicted every scene beautifully. It is very sneaky, very unexpected.

The plot starts with three friends, as normal. The plot was arranged beautifully, and suspicions started to occur between the three of them. The author was generally placing a little bit too much suspicion on the main, Samuel and Rehan that she forgot to highlight the girl, Joanne as I read this book, I had no suspicion at all.

It was a little bit odd of how Leonard was a part of him as I read it, he was just a person in the book, turns to be a big piece of puzzle. You can say that this places the limelight far away from the trio. Ergo, maybe the trio was too obsessed on the idea of 'Hollywood', that was seemingly highlighted.

I find the killings ingenious, nonetheless. It was beautifully planned (not to say like i'm a serial killer). This book gives a spine-chilling experience to the readers. Gina Yap Lai Yoong, you're doing it right!

To wrap, NGERI by Gina Yap Lai Yoong is electric, terrifying and scary -- it gave me goose bumps. If a thriller is what you're looking for, NGERI has the answer.

You could see by the Augustus who was committed to Hazel as he depended his life on her. This book takes you to a wonderful journey of two teenage lovers, brings you close to them upon knowing them.

Review:

John Green has produced a wonderful book as he made the reader's believe that they were Hazel Grace. He made us fall in love with a fictional character, Augustus Waters and he breaks our heart with how deep a love can be. He taught us that love could be easy, but it could be unforgettable.

Sick humor that was depicted in this book is definitely unarguable. This is a wonderful book that everybody could relate as everyone has their own story. This book is electric, addictive like heroin. Based on my opinion, this book reminded me of the world, and the love inside of it. The gooey, the romance, the heart. I could see that the author has been brought joy, and sorrow at the same time for the readers.

Beautiful metaphors and ingenious theories has brought in this book, it is amazing and you can say that John Green has produced effort on writing it. It is witty, and the author, which I believed has placed an unbelievable amount of grace into it. This book is smart, and opens up chapters in a surprise. Joy, tears, and angst in the same time.

I could say to John Green, it was a magnificent read. Thank you, is all I have to say.

First Book Review: Ilusaniti karya Adib Zaini

Title: Ilusaniti
Author: Adib Zaini
Publisher: Fixi Books
Genre: Thriller
Rate: 8/10

Summary:

The gang started with a normal lifestyle then everything changed after the one friend kills himself. They wondered, was it a conspiracy? Who's grave would they be engraving? Thoughts are damaged, nights filled with nightmares. Is it an illusion, or a reality?

Review:

I would rate this book so high that I could be so ecstatic. This book has twists, right turns and definitely a contemporary that you would find uncommon in Malay books. But this book, proved me wrong. A starting point that starts a little bit normal and plain. A group of online friends meeting each other for the first time. Then after a while, mysterious occurrence started to happen.

I find this book so electric is because the plot seems to surprise me every time. It is astonishing, amazing and definitely electrifying. Opens up doors of the world we seem to know so little about. I could say that this book gave me goosebumps as I read it, and this is something rare as even the most terrifying movies could never haunt me as much as this book does.

What bothers me the most is the part where he met 'Shelly', the she-man and had sexual interest and contact with her. I do not void the intention of the fictional character Faiz or 'Fez' to find or seek love after getting friend-zoned by the engaged Aleya but it seemed like the author could have done better and took the word 'Urban' and 'Contemporary' that is bold by the publisher.

Aside from the difficulties upon this story, I find it heart-warming that the main would keep the cat that was named 'David Lee Roth'. Nevertheless that the cat would have had a link between him and his dreams. It excites me where Aleya and the main had a connection (even not sexual) and has a psychic instinct. And out of context, I find it funny when she knew what he was thinking of her eg: spanking her and it was cool that she would've guessed the numbers, even the long one correctly.

This book has a dark humor to it, that I find amusing that I could say that the author, Adib Zaini has produced a great sum of effort and brains because this book has completely, as they said it, "mind-fucked'  the hell out of me, so congratulations if that is what you're looking for.

Furthermore, how Faiz cracks under pressure shows that he is not such a heartless asshole after all, and deeply cares about their friendship but the contents of mocking God, is a little bit over-whelming of how the main searches God when he is in need. To put it this way, it was not such a habit that anyone should follow.

I agree with thoughts that are found in this book about how perception is everything in how you look at it or the things you don't really have thought about it. The theories that has been developed in this book has been astonishing as it was a good read. I could say that it was simply breath taking as I am theory maker myself.

'Ilusaniti' by Adib Zaini is definitely an electric, dark-humorous and thrilling read. Something that even the finest writers fails to amid; bravo! such a spectacular book indeed.
